Could the 43 second malfunction have been planned in order to make us think that the missiles wont work and make us back off? If they can't launch a missile then why would we have to worry about it hitting us? Maybe in reality they were testing out a failsafe maneuver to call off the missile if it had already been launched that worked perfectly.
Good news is that when they say it is capable of hitting the United States they only mean Alaska.
