The Crossroads of Life

  View Printable Version

"There are moments in life where things could go one way...or they could go another.  Both options exist as completely separate and viable futures for just the smallest, unmeasurable, nanosecond.  But once you step into one future, you never know what the other could have been." - Narrated by Nick Stahl

Throughout the course of our lives we will be faced with MANY situations like this.  Times when we need to make a decision between right and wrong, up or down, stay or go...  Even the most simple choices change our lives in ways that we might not even imagine.  Sometimes these changes are not immediately clear, but sooner or later they end up making sense.  These choices could be for the best, or for the worst.  We may look back and wish that we had done things differently or we may look back and think to ourselves that we would do it all over again the same way if we had to.

People pop in and out or our lives all the time.  You go to the grocery store or the bank and start some small talk with the person behind you in line and after that brief moment you end up saying your goodbyes only to go your separate ways.  Never to meet again.  But, have you ever wondered to yourself "what if I had asked that person out for a bite to eat?" or something and continued talking to them?  Could there have been a connection with them that would have cultivated itself into something more than just that brief encounter?  These decisions sometimes turn into regrets.

Beggers Can Be Choosers

  View Printable Version

The other night I was bringing my old car to the dealership to be sold at an auction the next day.  It was running just fine until we decided to stop for gas and turn the engine off...  It died right there.  Tha battery wouldn't turn over the engine.  Well seeing as how I am always prepared I got my McGyver on and daisy chained some paper clips together between my car battery and the battery on the truck, held them im place on the terminals with some acorn tops and it started right up.  OK, seriously, I had jumper cables in the trunk...but the paper clip thing would have been cool.

So here we are with the truck started now and as soon as we go to take off it dies again.  So we are like screw it... Let's push it into the parking space up there.  We got it about 90% of the way and needed a little help pushing.  Out of nowhere comes a guy that had earlier asked me for 80 cents and I told him I had no money.  I hate it when people beg for change.  Why can't they just work like the rest of us?  If they can make it to Dunkin Donuts by 6AM to bum change from the morning crowd why can't they make it to their job there at the same time?  It just bugs me.  By this time I am feeling bad because even though I pushed this guy away when he needed me he did not even hesitate to help me when I needed him.  He didn't even ask for any change again after he had helped.  He just went on his merry way.

I ended up giving him $5 in singles that I had in my pocket because I never spend $1 bills anyways.  They just end up in my duffle bag.  The moral of this story is...  Some people are willing to help others and expect nothing in return.  Even when that person had refused to help them just moments earlier.

DISCLAIMER:  This does not mean that I am now going on a "Feed the Homeless" spree.  If you want something you still need to earn it.

Brief Encounters

  View Printable Version
Every day we interact with people. Some of these people may or may not effect our lives. A simple nod to a person can effect them in ways that you do not understand.

Some people feel down about themselves and are led to believe that they are worthless by people who themselves are actually worthless and don't want to be the only ones. So take a second out of your busy life and give someone a nod or say hi to them while you are passing by in the street. Who knows, if you live outside of CT they might actually say something back. lol.
